Shastri in the Forefront — President Singh Addresses AUCC

On November 8, 2010 the Association of Universities and Colleges of Canada (AUCC) spearheaded a seven-day mission of 15 Canadian university presidents to India. By recognizing the vast opportunities available for Canadian institutions in India AUCC is treading ground familiar to Shastri. It was in fitness of things that on the opening day of the Mission the Shastri President Sunaina Singh was invited to give orientation to the Canadian contingent on the Shastri’s contribution to India-Canada educational collaboration and cooperation and its strategic plans for future directions.

Shastri Regional Symposium Update – A Great First Event

Engaging India has officially launched with the first Canadian symposium which took place at the University of Saskatchewan October 28-29, 2010. Co-sponsored by Shastri, with assistance from Enterprise Saskatchewan and International Science and Technology Partnership Canada, the conference brought together a disparate group of disciplines to discuss work, research, and collaboration undergoing now between Canada and India.

Conference on IPC – Announcement

Hon’ble Mr. Justice Markanday Katju, Judge, Supreme Court of India, Prof. N.R.Madhava Menon, Former Vice-Chancellor, NLSIU, Bangalore & NUJS, Kolkata and Prof. B.B.Pande, Former Professor of Law, Delhi University has kindly agreed to be the patrons of the International Seminar and Prof. M. Zakaria Siddiqui, Former Dean, Aligarh Muslim University is the Co-Chairperson of the Organizing Committee.

Through this International Seminar, we want to discuss the philosophy and the journey of the Indian Penal Code over all these years and also want to discuss present challenges, strategy and agenda for reform in the Indian Penal Code. For this purpose, we are inviting judges, lawyers and academicians from the countries which are having similar penal code like ours especially from Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Malaysia, Singapore, Hong Kong and some African countries.

Focus India

Shastri President Sunaina Singh was invited to make a presentation for the Focus India program very capably coordinated and co-chaired by DFAIT and our Bir Sahnis. The meeting was widely attended and heard from various agencies regarding their focus on India.

Watch for your 2010-11 Shastri Membership Invoices

Canadian member invoices are being sent out this week from the Canadian office. Included in the package will be a letter to each university president (with a copy to the CMC member) providing an overview of Shastri and its recent activities and plans, a copy of Shastri’s Action Plan, Shastri’s Guide to Grants and Awards for Indian and Canadian Scholars, Financial Statements, and a profile of recent grants to members.

Wilfrid Laurier University – Conference Announcement

“Assessing the Complexities of South Asian Migration” will be held at Wilfrid Laurier University, Waterloo, Ontario, Canada May 19th-21st 2011.

The conference posits that examining South Asian migration necessitates interdisciplinary and international collaborative approaches to both conceptualization and field studies. The aim of this conference is to take stock of the different topics currently being researched by Canadian and international scholars, and define new areas for possible research, and opportunities for future collaboration.

Shastri Alumna Performs in India – Anjali at the IIC

Anne-Marie Gaston has been invited to perform January 6, 2011 at India International Centre in Delhi. The theme for the evening is the Environment and the Founding of the Great Himalayan National Park. The show will include mixed media: dance, video, music, text, and images.

Dr. Gaston is a senior Performing Arts Scholar. Known by her stage name Anjali she is a multiple award recipient from Shastri. Her D.Phil. from Oxford University focused on the sociology of Indian performing arts. Contact the Indian Int’l Centre http://www.iicdelhi.nic.in for more information.

TAPMI – International Conference on Accounting & Finance

The T. A. Pai Management Institute (TAPMI) is among the leading management institutes in India, and is reputed for its academic rigour and faculty-student interaction.
